The Houghton Library is the primary repository for Harvard’s rare books and manuscripts. Collections focus on the study of Western civilization, particularly European and American history and literature.
It includes special collections in printing, graphic arts, and theatre (non-circulating). Houghton Library’s Reading Room is free and open to all adult researchers wishing to consult our collections.
